Coolant gauge goes to 90 and stays there.

Evening all,

‘06 mk5 GTI

I’ve noticed lately my temp gauge gets to 90c and stays there’s,
Did some testing earlier today with OBD11,
Output test, both fans run.
Warmed the car up to 84c then drops to 70c, by the time I looked under the bonnet I could see the fans running, and I wasn’t getting a % output on OBD11.
I tried this a few time heating to 84 drop to 70, then the last time it dropped to 55c checked under the bonnet and both fans were running, so I’m happy it’s working but, I can see temps changing on my phone but all the time the gauge still says 90c.
The gauge works correctly as it warms up but just stays at 90c
My coolant bottle is full too.

Any ideas?

It's supposed to stay there unless there's an issue.

Wastedspark:
No it should move to indicate the actual engine temp as it has been doing for the last 10 years,
Moving between 70-90 as the fans come on is normal, the issue is it’s not going back down. Now I’ve proved the fans are working my concern is if I were to overheat would the gauge go past 90 or not.

ZoliWorks:
VW temp gauge has a flat spot and displays 90c for anything between 70c and 105c. If it drops below 60 on VCDS and the gauge itself is still not dropping, it might be a faulty temp sensor, even if it's not throwing any errors.

Wastedspark:
Thanks, that’s a large amount of latency for temp control but it does stop the gauge from chattering,
I’m leaning towards the temp senders being the issue if it’s not causing a problem I’ll  replace them next cam belt change.
