Are Japanese lightweight 17” Monza wheels a thing?
breeze:
My understanding was that Monzas were made by BBS and Ronal. The BBS wheels were all ‘hollow spoke’ and that effectively means that the rear of the spokes are scooped out in the way that you can see in your pictures. I would always choose BBS over Ronal for that reason by they are very common and not Japanese market only. It may be the case that BBS did make non hollow spoke Monzas but you can tell from the rear either way.
Lots of wheels got the BBS hollow spoke technology. 996 Turbo for example. But for a MK5 they are quite common.

The genuine BBS Monza's also have to have the metal tyre valve due to the hollow spokes........you are not able to fit the standard rubber valves.
That is an easy tell off pictures.
Common of the early Mk5 GTI's as I have my original set in the garage.
