Suspension Recommendation
« on: March 07, 2025, 04:40:50 pm »
Hi all,

I need to replace my suspension due to a blown shock, but annoyingly due to insurance I cant get an aftermarket suspension kit as it just adds too much to my premium. Where do people recommend getting original OEM suspension from? Are the usual GSF / Euro Car Parts the best or are there any good websites which sell a complete kit? I am struggling to find out the GTI spring spec as I dont want to accidentally install base model springs!

Thanks

Hi, I have this saved in my phone as I was going to do similar and replace my suspension with oem parts.

Front shock Sachs 317579
Rear shock Sachs 310950

Front spring Sachs 993167
Rear spring Sachs 994632

Top mounts - Lemforder

Ball joints - Lemforder

S3 control arm bushes (Instead of anti lift kit)

Sorry don’t have part numbers for some of it. I was looking on Autodoc for the springs and shocks and they seemed to be priced reasonably.

The rear springs may differ depending on if you have a trailor coupler.

Another option would be going with Bilstein B4 sport OEM replacement. Apparently about 5-10% stiffer than OEM and it's a nice little upgrade. Cant speak for Sachs shocks cause I went with KYB at first but it might as well have welded the old ones and would have still been more comfortable..

Can recommend the Bilstein's a lot tho. Have had them for the past 10k km and they are quite comfortable

I was thinking about these when the time comes, just to try and smooth out the ride a little. When I'm doing my daily commute and I'm tired small bumps can be really annoying.

Does anyone know what the spec is for the Bilstein B3 OE replacement springs? On AutoDoc it comes up with these for my 2007 GTI as a replacement fit and they are only £22.14 each which seems a bargain. This is for the rear springs. It notes them as for 'standard suspension without a trailer hitch'. Does anyone know if these are the same dimensions as what would be on the car or of these are for standard model Golfs? I'm wary of AutoDoc as I've had issues with incorrect parts before with them. From what I can gather online the OEM GTI rear springs should be about 299/300mm long but there is no info about this on the AutoDoc site. I went on the Bilstein website to check and they have them for the GTI but reference it as a standard chassis so I'm assuming this would be OEM? They're part number is a different one from that on AutoDoc. Again, no technical info on Bilstein's site as to the actual dimensions. Bilstein direct are only a few quid more than AutoDocs price. Thanks if anyone can help.
