Timing belt and chain change interval
bojan.u:
Hello, I bought gti mk5 and it has 100kkm after timing belt replacment. So after 100kkm its time to change timing belt set + water pump. Does the chain and tensioner also need to be replaced at this interval (100,000 km)?
Regards,

Hi yes I think the belt is 4 years or 100,000km whichever comes first.
Chain you can check if you have VCDS or OBDeleven to see if it is within tolerance. Mine is on 145k miles on original chain.

It is worth doing the chain and while your there the tensioner and phase adjuster with new rings. The phase adjuster gets worn and gets grooves cut into it which reduce the oil pressure to it. That and the tensioner getting lazy, the chain naturally stretching over time can create havick and warning noises/rattles. A lot of people including myself have been there.
I did the lot as preventative mintenance and the engine ran better and quieter.

Timing belt i religiously change every 4 to 5 years.

Hi, is there a trick to doing it without rounding the VVT adjuster bolt thingy? And is it still a £300 plus part? Cheers
