I have a Mk5 1.6 FSI automatic, and recently I noticed it won't go into Tiptronic mode — I can’t manually shift gears anymore. Also, the PRND lights are all lit up at once, so I can't see which gear or mode I'm in. However, the car still drives fine in automatic mode.
I scanned it with OBD, and it threw an F189 Tiptronic switch error. From what I've read online, this code usually points to the magnet inside the gear shifter either wearing out or becoming dislodged, which stops the car from recognizing gear selections properly — hence no manual mode.
I’ve opened up the gear shifter (see pictures attached), but I can't figure out where the magnet is supposed to be or where it should sit. I've ordered a replacement shifter from eBay, but in the meantime, can anyone show me or explain where exactly the magnet should be placed?
Thanks in advance!
