Cold Air Intake Fitted - Too Loud? (help)
Kodap_MK5:
Just to chime back in again, I haven't really felt any major 'difference' either in the car since fitting the intake and the noise is really not to my taste, still able to return it so going to get it all taken off with the original one put back on & get it sent back for a refund!

I am very amused by the "I'm over 40" and "boy racer" comments in this thread. But I do respect that different drivers have different tastes.
I have had my Mk5 GTI since new in 2005 and fitted a Forge Twintake fairly early on. I also removed the bonnet's sound deadening and later on I fitted a fully carbonfibre bonnet with air extract vent. I absolutely love all the sounds my GTI makes (Milltek custom built exhaust system throughout) including the turbo lift-off swish-whip.
Guess how old I am ....
I was born in 1947 and have been a petrolhead all my life around high performance cars. So I am 78 and am too old to care two figs what other people think of me and my beloved Red Chariot which in fact is quite famous.

I do not recognise the car myself.
Each to their own, and tastes are very different between people.
I too am a petrol head, but have always liked the subtle/clean OEM+ mods........where some others like to go more wild and bold.
At the end of the day the car community is a vast open space, and if everyone was the same it would be a boring place to live.

.... Certainly the car community is an open space for people with a variety of personal tastes. In my case I absolutely love driving and high performance in all respects is more important, and safer, than just subtle body styling.

I have an Edition30 GTI and enjoy modding, but I just didn't want the noises and hassle associated with swapping out for an aftermarket one (including fuel trims and the fact the EA113 is an ugly ass engine which needs the nice OEM cover over it) - it only really works well on naturally aspirated cars in my opinion.
So I opted to install a Pipercross foam panel filter in mine - sounds superb, especially when hitting 5krpm+ - I highly recommend you go down this route, in my opinion foam filters sound nicer than paper and cotton gauze filters
