Cylinder 1 Misfire,
« on: July 16, 2025, 02:04:57 pm »
Hi all,
I have a misfire problem under load from cylinder one, Idles fine albeit not perfectly smooth but when it comes onto boost or try for high throttle it stumbles and the engine light flashes. Swapped coils and plugs and still cylinder 1. Ran some injector cleaner through it and it does seem to idle a bit smoother but still getting misfires. If you ask only 30 ish percent throttle then it will climb the rev range okay. It is when asking a lot of it that it goes. Floor it and it just stumbles at any revs. Is injector looking most likely? I understand these engines get carbon build up but that would cause different behavior wouldn't it?
Thanks for any replies.

Same symptoms as you, was a faulty injector. It was a brand new S3 injector from the dealer as well. Failed after a month.

Thanks for the reply, sounds a safe bet for the next thing to replace, Do you happen to know how likely it is to be able to pull just the one out? or should I buy a full set of seals assuming more will come out when pulling the rail off?

Well if you have a parts dealer that can get you parts the same day or next day, dont buy anything. If they havent been pulled out for a few thousand km's, they are likely not going to come out and instead the rail will slide off the injectors. In that case, you dont need a full seal kit, only the seals that go into the rail.

However, my suggestion is, if you are taking the rail off anyway, you might as well go the extra mile, get a full seal kit, an injector extraction and service tool and those metal basket filters for them. The seals were about 10-15 euros for me per injector, 30 euros for the ebay tool and I havent yet fitted the metal mesh filters.
