Few issues with my Mk5 GTI

(1/1)

Tomandrew10:
Hi all,
I recently bought a 55 plate gti it was certainly in the cheaper end of the market but over all it seems to be in good condition and drives very well for its age. The only issues I’m having are problem with cold starting in which when the revs drop below 1k it will run very rough for a minute or so then it runs fine, there is a p0171 code which pointed me towards an air/fuel issue so I cleaned the maf sensor which seems to have made a small difference is there any way of testing the maf sensor without having another one to try? There is also an evap fault code which seems to be tied in with the lean running issue.

The other issue I have is only the drivers door locks with the key all the other doors don’t lock the actuators seems to try and lock but they don’t work, all the door locks seem to be faulting but it seems a bit odd that they would all go. Is there any other reason why this would happen or anything to test the actuators?

Thanks in advance please let me know if there is any more information needed.
Tom

if the evap code is p0441 it will most likely be due to a full charcoal cannister. you can buy a aftermarket one on ebay for around £15

If the engine runs rough and then self corrects, it could be a vacuum leak. Try pulling the dipstick after the car corrected itself. If it doesnt start shaking or running rough again, you've got a leak somewhere.

One way to test the maf would be to pull the plug and see what the car does. if it runs better without the maf, there's a maf issue. Try both before starting and after it corrects itself.

Thanks for the responses, pulling the dipstick does seem to alter the engine and it shakes a bit. I have replaced the charcoal canister so I will see if the evap code comes back but it hasn’t yet.

I have just got a hex v2 so have been looking on vcds this evening and have noticed the cam adjustment is a bit wild, the percentage is either all over the place or around 77 percent but when it’s all over the place I can hear a rattle, I think the next step may be to check if the chain is slack. I also noticed the set point of 24kw was slightly different to the actual which hovered around 26kw this seems to have caused a p000a fault code. Has anyone experienced this before?

I tried unplugging the MAF and it did seem to run slightly better so I will be looking into getting a new sensor.
