Last Ditch Effort.....
« on: June 29, 2026, 07:50:28 pm »
Hey guys, wondering if anyone can point me in a direction for a last ditch effort to get my car running again before i call the junk yard to come get it.

2008 (Prod Date- 10/07) MKV GTI BPY FSI 2.0T Manual ~225,000 Miles on dash

History-

Blew head gasket years ago- had entire top end rebuilt, turbo rebuilt, all timing belt components and cam chain components changed including phaser. Did the work myself along side my lead tech at my mom and pop shot that i was the service manager at. By no means a master tech but went to school for automotive tech and know for the most part what I am doing.

Car ran fine for about 6 months then started getting an intermittent P0016 code. Changed the Cam sensor, Crank Sensor, VVT soleniod. Took it to a local euro shop as I wanted to stop throwing parts at it and wasting time. Shop had car for a few weeks, tech was frustrated with it, set timing four times, verified timing was fine to begin with on both sides of engine. Ended up giving me a diagnosis of a bad engine wiring harness. Torn, chaffed somewhere. Suggested that I just replace the motor with a used one that had the harness with it.

I didnt want to go this route because I have already essentially rebuilt the entire top end and put a lot of money into it and only got a year out of it...So i took to the internet and found a harness on ebay. The part number was 06f972619AR- which i did not research greatly and i found out was for a DSG transmission. Stupidly i put the entire harness in the car before verifying. All connectors lined up just fine but when I went to start the car it would run for a few seconds then die. Was getting code p3089 (communication with LPFP). Well surely did not have that issue before so I knew it was the harness. Fast forward through research i am confident that I have the correct harness. Just got delivered the other day. Part number 06f972619AQ. Everything is telling me this is MKV BPY FSI manual harness.

Well i get it in today and sure enough the same exact issue. Car starts hard, runs for maybe 10-20 seconds and dies. Threw the same code- P3089. Maybe a sh*t coincidence happened? This issue came about as harness was having issue? I wasnt convinced but started testing. Have 12v power at the LPFP- can hear the pump priming- jumped 12v power to pump directly and it runs. So, its gotta be the control module right? NOPE. Swapped it out and its the same thing. Just got a nice quote for $390 to junk this pile of crap and i am about to hit accept and move on. Anyone have any last ditch efforts for me to attack? I had absolutely zero issues aside from the P0016 code prior to swapping the harness. So i am still leaning that the harness is wrong. But all connectors have a home. I verified i have the right connectors on right sensors with wiring diagrams. I am at a complete loss. I am putting way too much time and energy into an 18 year old car.
