150-200k should get you something decent, house prices are similar to that of the uk but you get alot more for your money.

Trade wise its things such as social workers, school teachers, electricians, plumbers etc that they are short of.  if both yourself and your wife have something worthwhile then you will stand a better chance of being allowed into the country.  if there is a likelihood of you drawing benefits of any sort they turn you down.
