Swap RCD-300 for an RCD-500?

(1/4) > >>

Allardice:
Hi,

My GTI only has a single slot cd player and no cd changer in the glove box or arm rest. I would like the functionality of a six cd changer and wonder if anyone has any experience of changing the rcd-300 for an rcd-500?

My car is a 2005 "55" and ideally I just want something which will just be a straight swap without any need for complex wiring work or firmware upgrades.

Can anyone advise is this is possible and if it's a simple as being an rcd-500 from eBay and just swapping them?

Thanks again,

Simon

Allardice, with the RCD500 and the age of your car, you will almost certainly have to upgrade the CAn gateway to avoid battery drain issues.  all the info you need should be on www.my-gti.com

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. According to that website it appears their shouldn't be a power drain issue as long as I am changing from a 2nd gen to another 2nd gen. As this is what I plan to do it appears this may not bee too much of a problem.

Can anybody clarify this?

Thanks,

Simon

I think you're getting mixed up with the rcd-510.  That is the non sat nav version of the rns-510.  If i remember correctly the rcd-500 is pretty much the same as the rcd-300 but you can put 6 disks in it individually.

They are just a straight swap, the most difficult part is taking the dash apart but patience is all you really need

No power drain going from a RCD 300 to RCD500 or RNS510 upto firmware 1100

You only suffer from a power drain if you upgrade to a RCD310/510 or RNS510 with firmware abover 1100 and you have a can gateway older than a K
