Brembo Brakes Kit

<< < (2/9) > >>

mackit:
Is there anything to bear in mind in terms of maintaining these brakes over the OEM setup?

Also, does the OEM setup on a GTi/ED30 have brake wear indicators that alert the driver when the pads are worn?  And would this facility not be available with this Brembo brake kit?  The reason i ask is the big brake kit on JKM specifically mentions a brake wear indicator and this is not mentioned for the Brembo kit.

Hope someone can help.  :rolleye:

The OEM GTI/Ed30 setup does include a brake wear indicator sensor. It's essentially a wire that's embedded in the pads; when the wear is sufficiently high, the wire is worn through and goes open-circuit, thus activating the wear indicator.

I was actually wondering if the Brembo setup has them, but even if it doesn't... that's what your right foot is for  :chicken: When I worked at Porsche one of the senior chaps there said to me that you shouldn't really be letting the pads wear down to that point (and there really isn't anything left by then).

mackit:
Good point.  :ashamed:

And what about maintenance?  Anything different to standard brakes?

cmdrfire:
Well, I presume that as they were offered as an OEM upgrade within VW group the consumables (discs, pads) will have VW part numbers so can be ordered/fitted/maintained through normal channels. Not sure about very long-term stuff.

In any case I can let everyone know in time enough as I've just pulled the trigger  :chicken: I'm weak-willed I guess... held out for three days!

mackit:
Nice...so you've purchased a set from JKM?  How many sets are left out of interest?
