tyre pressure monitors
x18wag:
hi guys, ive got tpm in my car its a 2005 gti, low miles and really good conditon, ive pushed the button and held it untill it goes bong!! and a light flashes on the dash for a few seconds, then nothing, my right front tyre has a slow puntcher and it did not tell me? what do you think the problem could be?
cheers
cameluk:
Didn't think TPMS would warn you of a slow puncture, it only warns you if there is a large difference in pressure between wheels, as it uses the ABS to calculate if there is a problem

Which is partly why I use one of these:

A relatively expensive option but you know exactly what's going on every 5 seconds and in each individual tyre.
Hurdy has one too and we both say we'd now be lost without it.
stealthwolf:
I had a puncture and the warning didn't go off until there had been a loss of 10psi.

I agree stealthwolf, not exactly sensitive but better than nothing.
I think owner of the new Honda Civic I passed yesterday on the motorway wished she had had something installed. Her offside rear tyre was almost shredded with sparks and smoke coming from the exposed steel belt. This was despite a number of cars (including me) flashing her and getting along side her and frantically pointing to her rear wheel. At the last look when I came off at my junction, she was still in the middle lane doing 70mph. :surprised:
