Weight saving - see ya later interior
« on: May 26, 2010, 11:17:34 pm »

If I can talk the missus into taking her car over when we move into our new place in Germany.  (Shes apprehensive about driving on the continent)

Im Seriously considering losing as much of my interior as I can replacing my seat with a light recaro and leaving the passenger seat in to remind me it is a cupra lol

How much would you think I could potentially save?  Also looking into Carbon bonnets that have just gone into production for the leon

My back seats have been out for ages now as I never have anyone in the back. They weigh approx 10-15kg. Front seats are approx 20kg each I would say.

Easy enough to do?

Thinking about a belt swap and ditching the aircon compressor too

Aye. 10mm spline in 4 places will remove the front seats. Rear seats need a spline drive too.

If you are ditching the a/c compressor, you will need a different belt. I left my compressor on, but removed the core.

....Yep, but that leaves the runners still in place doesn't it?

Ive got no core.  Im going to speak to VWR tommorow to see what belt they use when removing the a/c pump.

Rear seats sounds like a job for while the missus is at work    Know what size spline for the rear seats?

Yep. If you wanted to go hard core, you could probably have them out with a smaller spline.

Mike - Think its also a 10, but could be wrong.

I would be interested to know all whats involved with removing the rest of the a/c and details of the belt required. Someone told me that stuff is approx 30kg but not sure if thats accurate.

We are going for an all new one bud thats out on the 1st June  :happy2:.

Owen isnt changing his fuel pump that I am aware of - not something he ever mentioned to me, and I saw him last night.

Will you make it to Crail on 20th June?

....JonnyC's Ed30 build thread here might include all sorts of useful info for you, including accurate seat weights etc  :happy2:
