how long will the battery last though. batterys deteriorate over time, especially when charged overnight for longer than requqired etc, so what appns then. can you get replacement batteries.
your starting to win me over with this carl. theres definately a use for this in our job. i might wait until the Ipad 2 though to see if there will be usb connectivity or something similar.
have you looked into any solar charging kits that can provide enough of a charge for this

Modern batteries can't be over charged. Infact, battery life improves if you stick it on charge every night. Running them flat is actually the worst thing you can do with a modern battery. They do still degrade, but over a longer period of time.

As has been mentioned you shouldn't allow this battery to go completely flat and it works better if it is charged overnight often. In my experience apple batteries are very good. I have 2 MacBook Pro laptops and the batteries in them are still working as new.
With regards to solar charging. My PowerMonkey works spot on for charging this. I haven't sat and timed how long it would take to charge I just left it on for 30 minutes to see if the battery percentage went up. It did by 11% which suggests it will charge in about 4-5 hours the same as the plug that comes with it.
By the time the battery on this does need replacing then I have no doubt you will be able to buy them and do it yourself. I have already seen how easy it is to strip apart so I'm confident I would be able to it myself should the need arise.
With regards to connectivity what are you wanting to connect? If you are wanting for example to use external HDD to store films you then have the issue of it either draining the power if the iPad a lot faster or you need a separate power source for your HDD which is starting to defeat the object of the iPad i.e. allowing you to be mobile. An SD Card reader would be nice rather than having to use the camera connection kit you could also then add upto 64gb of extra storage. But other than that I can't see why people are banging on about lack of USB ports.
