I'll go get a coffee and you get typing, Robin. I want to hear that story!!

Nice to meet you BTW, even if you looked a little bemused at someone shouting your name out of a Passat.

....Good to meet you at last too! Even if very briefly. It's funny how the car you drive becomes your 'coat' and you initially recognise someone from the coat they're wearing. I don't know anyone with a silver Passat but have nothing against them. For looks I prefer a modded Bora though.

The story involves my son, Jay, who died when 4yo but who was 3yo when.. Me+barristers versus Great Ormond Street Hospital in The High Court in a case hinging around the very thorny subject (in UK law) of Parental Consent.. GOS getting very nasty indeed (never ask me to give anything to any of their charities!!). It looked at one stage as if we would need to appeal to the European courts and that would probably have made it a landmark test case. It certainly would have then burst into the press and public domain and been far less controllable. I was advised to take my son and temporarily disappear just to buy time had it gone that far and I could easily have done so through my American Indian connections.

Fortunately GOS caved in (I don't think they wanted it to go to Europe) and were shown to be wrong. It's not a subject I can write much more about without getting tearful.

There are other stories of disappearance I have been very close to (Lord Lucan for example) but they're not for public disclosure. A good friend of mine says I should write a book but I think I would be putting my head in a Lion's mouth and it's also against my personal code of loyalty. Most of us love some public attention, but having been close to those putting up with it, it's not for me. Also I feel uncomfortable with how it might stroke my ego.

Deffo, Ben thought I was Wilko when he came to say hello, simply because I was driving his car. The Passat is my mate Gary's.

I'm very sorry for your loss, Robin. I can't imagine what that must have been like. In a completely different set of circumstances, disappearing into the middle of nowhere in the US would be a great adventure - kind of like Easy Rider, but without the crap ending.

Next time I'm down at my office in Bournemouth, we'll hook up and you can tell me some more stories, Mum's the word, obviously.  :happy2:
