Flap on exhaust ?(Rocco)

I was just nosing around the car today and looked at the exhaust back box, I  noticed a motor attached to it and a rod ( the left exhaust end tailpipe on the scirocco) , a rod runs into the exhaust end pipe ?, I'm assuming this is like the flap on the R32 ?, question what does it actually do ?

Opens up at certain revs to give more noise :happy2:

Aston fit the same but theres can be kept fully open all the time by removing a fuse.  :signLOL:
