Can a dealer tell if you have chipped your car?
Pummy:
Here is one for you guys then. What about if you purchase one as an approved car WITH mods and maps with the warranty intact? How transferable is that warranty in that case?
vRS Carl:
If you purchase a car from the dealer that you know to be modded then you need to get it from them in writing that they will honour any remaining Warranty be it new car or VW Used car warranty.
What you may find though is that if something goes wrong and they do honour the warranty they will only replace with OEM parts & not like for like.

Exactly - if it is sold from a genuine VW franchised dealer, then the car will have to comply with all the caveats and benefits of the VW UK 'aftersales care'. So if it has say had a remap, and the engine goes bang, the stealer is duly obliged (both under the VW UK 2nd hand warranty, and also under the general Sale of Goods Act) to fix it. And wilst they might argue about fitting only OEM parts - if say it was advertised with a Milltek and the zorst fell off, they WOULD definately have to supply a new Milly and not OEM.

You really do need to be honest with your stealer, if nobody else on this issue.
