My .:R32 fly in this Gti ointment
VC:
looks like i may not be getting my splitter after all
got this on email:
I'm afraid I have bad news for you.
Though Fed Ex picked up your package two days ago, today I was informed that it is too large to ship overseas. Though the box weighs a scant 7-lb, its 79"x23"x12" dimensions total more than 330cm, and that is their limit. I am extremely unhappy because these are the dimensions I offered when I was originally quoted a shipping price. I do not know how such things happen, but I do apologize for the awful situation.
UPS wants to charge more than you paid for the item and my next best option is Bax Global who have quoted a price of $225 (airport pickup - door-to-door will be more).
I am fully prepared to offer you an immediate full refund should you give me the word. Lord knows I wouldn't fault you.
Again, please accept my apologies and let me know what you'd like me to do.
if anyone's got ANY ideas that don't require me to remortgage the house please do let me know

update:
Yes, I am very displeased with this turn of events and feel very badly that I am not able to honor my original quote for shipping.
With air freight, both FedEx and UPS use a system of dimensional weight for large objects. In other words, on an airplane the space taken up by a box is even more important than what it weighs. According to UPS, the dimensional weight of this 7-lb box is 135-lbs. But unlike UPS, FedEx simply does not accept for international commercial shipping boxes over a certain dimension. I suspect if I were a private individual they would accommodate me, though at what crazy price I do not know.
The only other option I have right now is to wait for a door-to-door quote from Bax and let you know. It will certainly be more than $225, but how much more I do not know.
Again, so sorry for the mess in which you've found yourself today.
again...if anyone's got any suggestions.............

^^^^
I'm really sorry to hear that, VC. But no suggestions at the moment
I recently sold my Abt rear valance to someone (on another forum) in London. The Royal Mail refused it as being too long and so did ParcelForce, regardless of it being extremely low weight. Couriers such as DHL etc refused it because I wasn't a business with an account with them.
My VW dealer came to my rescue and even packed it in proper VW bumper packaging. The courier they use refused it on collection without the driver giving reason. A fuss was made and it was eventually collected and delivered!
What's with all these f**king stupid rules!!?? [/rant]
