Exhaust/engine Warning Light on
« on: January 30, 2009, 10:15:22 pm »
Picked up my car from VWRacing today and drove down to Reading and then to Ipswich.  I was running low on fuel so very reluctantly stopped at South Mimms Services on the M25 - it was a BP garage and I didn't really want to put that fuel in the car... Anyway, I put in £10 of BP Ultimate (the bare minimum to get to Ipswich) and then drove off.. 5-10 miles later the exhaust warning light came on.

This is most likely down to one of the following:

1.  Poor fuel from the BP garage destroyed the Lambda Sensor.
2.  The Milltek exhaust that was installed about 1000 miles ago.
3.  The APR Fuel Pump installed 3000 miles ago malfunctioning and sending too much fuel down - I did notice that my fuel range went from 50 miles to just 25 miles within 5 miles just before I stopped at the garage.
4.  Exhaust Flapper Valve.

Anyone experienced this before or knows what it is?  I really hope it doesn't prevent me from taking the car down to Santa Pod on Sunday.     I'll just have to bring the R32 in that case

its down to the lower lambda probe getting lower temps so it sets it off

Why would it get lower temps?  Because of the S3 intercooler?   I'm desperately trying to locate my Hex-CAN cable to see the error codes...

you will see if you find you cable it will say lower probe below temp as it does it as the lambda after the cat is running cooler as it might be in stock mode so try your revo see if it working if you have revo

I don't think its in stock mode although I didn't exactly push it after the warning light came on... I have the select plus switch.... but can the ecu revert back to stock just like that!?

lol - Just thought, you disconnected the battery for the cooler and VWR may have done too.

REVO reverts to low settings when the battery is taken off, you'll need to use your switch to put it back.

Right I'm back... and covered in dust and muck - just cleaned out the garage so I wax/clean the car tomorrow evening   Plus I had to find the Micro-CAN in there which I did... Mark from VWR told me that he removed the battery - both terminals - for the Quaife work earlier today so it may well be that... Also, the car didn't feel as fast as the VWR Demo car which I thought strange as I'm sure I remember it being faster  :signLOL:  :signIWS: I'll go out now and have a look at VAG-COM first, then put the Select Plus on it and revert back to standard (in my case being Stage 2   - but thats until tomorrow morning when Northampton Motorsport take it to Stage 2+ if all goes well with this fault code)

VAG-COM has found the following faults with the wheel speed sensor, DSG and fuel pressure  :scared:    Looks like I'll be visiting JKM at some point.  I'm not an expert  in diagnosing the readouts so I'll ask Northampton Motorsport what they think tomorrow.

Looking at the data, this fault occured 247 miles ago all at the same time!  I took the car from VWR and by the time I got home I had done 241 miles.  I know VWR tested the DSG on the car, driving it around and I am wondering whether the fault occured at that point or when they put the battery back on before taking it out.  Or maybe it happened just before I dropped it off to them.  At least I am armed with some information when I take it to Northampton Motorsport tomorrow

Oh... and when I tried to acquire the ECU settings on Revo Select Plus, it gave readings of 0 for Boost, Timing and Fuel.  I reset them on setting B - B = 7, T = 5 and F = 9 and then tested to make sure that the ECU acquired the new settings which it did... I wonder if all this was due to a battery being removed - unlikely as I can't see how fuel pressure is related to that??!  The wheel speed sensor fault may be due to something VWR did when putting the Quaife on.. but then again all the faults occured at the exact same time because the mileage is the same on all fault freeze frames - or am I not understanding them correctly?

Finally, why did the exhaust/engine light come on approximately 257km/160 miles later instead of at the time of the fault?  I thought these things are real time aren't they?

Just noticed that the although the faults occured at the same mileage, the times are different - what units are they? - maybe the car was standing with the engine on when these faults occured?  Maybe it was revved to the max to test the Quaife hence the fuel pressure/wheel speed sensor/abs fault codes... They haven't occured again from the records.

Those are some codes I would expect to see from a car having been on a Dyno.

Clear them off and go for a drive, see what happens and let us know.

It is well known and accepted that REVO reverts to 000 when the battery is removed.
