Tornado Red Golf GTI DSG... New wheels.. Finally!!!
swf7y:
Right, I thought I'd start a build thread as I've done a few bits and bobs to my car since purchasing.
Before I start, a quick history of my past cars:
My first car was a MK3 Golf GTI in TR! Loved it to bits (I was only 17!) Previous owner put 17" alloys and a DTM exhaust on it and thats how it stayed until i sold it :happy2:
Next came a Civic VTI B18 in Pearl Black, was nice but it was a civic! Whilst owning this I also brought a 406 Coupe as I loved the shape at the time.
Next I traded in the Civic for a Golf VR6 Highline in BMP and the fun began!
OMG this car sounded the nuts! I quickly sold the 406 coupe to fund a few mods I had in mind for the VR6.
The VR6 was totally standard and had all the factory Highline upgrades. I modded this car to exactly how I wanted it then not long after I sold it on. (still miss this car :sad1:)
Then I stayed with VAG and brought myself an LCR.
This is the only pic I could find of it:
I loved the fact that you get so much kit as standard and didnt want to mess with it much. So all I did was add an CAI, Revo stage 1, upgraded the brakes and added a couple of guages. Car was pushing around 270+ and was QUICK!
After about a year, I sold this and brought a BMW 325CI. This was nice, had loads of optional extras but found it too slow even though it was re-mapped.
So I sold that and statred searching for a new car....

After much deliberation I opted to buy another Golf. This time a MK5 GTI with DSG in TR. I really wanted CW but couldnt find a clean example for how much I could afford to spend.
This is as I brought it:
At first I wasn't too keen on th 19" alloys but soon grew to like them.
Anyways, I soon got to work!
First up, it needed a drop and I opted to go Koni coilovers just for the name and the fact that damping could be adjusted as well as ride height.
Before it was dropped:
After coilovers were installed:
Since taking this photo, the front has been dropped a little more
One thing I didn't like was the black rear bumper, side skirts and front lip... Something had to be done!
I decided to colour code the skirts, R32 rear end and Osir front lip.
These are the results.

Front:
I forgot to tell the bodyshop not to spray the lower centre section :fighting:
Owel, i'll sort it soon or even remove it!

There should be a filter on this site that changes the word brought to BOUGHT!

Next up, I needed to finish off the rear end. I wanted to fit an exhaust that sounded throaty but not loud. After much searching on various forums I decided on a Milltek Cat-back but failed to get hold of one! No-one seemed to have it in stock, so bored of waiting, I decided I was going to go the custom route.
I ended up at MIJ Performance and told them what I wanted (I had now changed my mind and wanted a Turbo-Back).
When I took the car to them, the engineer advised me to leave the Pre-Cat and go for a de-cat and cat-back. He said it wont make a difference as to wether I get it done or not. I decided to go ahead with the de-cat and cat-back knowing I can always get the downpipe done later. I went for 2.75mm pipe diameter.
Here are some pics of how it looks:
It sounds slightly louder that stock at the moment but I am advised it will get louder as it beds it. However, thats fine by me!
It may just be in my head but it feels alot better now. More urgent throttle response and mid-range torque. Very pleased with that. I guess de-catting make a huge difference.
