Busted Aircon How to
« on: September 30, 2010, 10:17:15 am »
Well,

I'll do my best to summarise what and how to fix regarding Aircon pumps that have stopped to work.
Off course there can be several reasons for the air con system not to work but let's concentrate on the pump for starters as i have had 2 pumæps seizing on me  :sad1:

First off, our GTI's comes with either Zexel or Valeo aircon pumps fitted from the factory, and as it has turned out they are prone to seizing.

This is a picture of a Zexel, notice how the wheel looks at the side:

This is a picture of a Sanden as fitted to my car now, notice the steel springs fitted to the side of the wheel, as they are not present on the Zexel (all black on the side of the wheel).

It is imperitive that you when you get the pump changed get the whole Air con system flushed and cleaned, as the bad air con pumps when they malfuntion will leave metal splinters in the system causing havoc on the new pump as well as your air con cooler so that you have to replace both afterwards.

More info to follow as i gather it.

If anyone has pictures of a Valeo pump or rather the wheel please post it here  :happy2:
When requiring a new pump i can only recommend Ebay, as the same pump but without the VW number but brand new cost app. 1/3 of the price VW wants.  :fighting:

I used this guy and all was in perfect order from start to finish regarding the actual buy of the pump  :happy2:
