I'm even dubious about some of the aftermarket wheels available by so called reputable companies.... VAG/Merc all the way!

When I changed over to my winter wheels (OEM VW Zolders) I was shocked at how heavy they were. There was a definitely noticable weight difference...

Lightweight rims have less meat on them and a much higher chance of cracking / buckling if you hit a decent pot hole or kerb though, great for track wheels IMO

....That's doubtless true and yet my 18" OZ Alleggerita's which only weigh 8kg have been ridden over some potholes etc which I haven't been able to avoid yet they remain undamaged.

Kerbs? No way do I have contact with those!

Me either but accidents happen! I've seem many a smashed alloy oop in the north with all these poor roads, 8 out of 10 have been cheap aftermarket types which is what I really meant, the OZ and TD wheels are built to good standards (OEM) and with top quality MgSi materials so will cope better than other makes.

I've even seen copy BBS LM's with the centres pulled through and warped at a local tyre fitters place!

is it vinyl or painted?

just wondering how the vinyl would look on the bottom textured parts.

....It looks great in the pics. Greeners used to have a matt black vinyl'd Ed30 and I thought it looked awful (sorry, Nath!).

A decent pot hole? Never heard a pot hole described as decent before!

I twatted a kerb at around 60 mph a while back and the aftermarket wheel I was running bore the brunt quite well, I thought. It was f*#?ed, but the tyre stayed inflated and I drove 20 miles home on it with no vibration before daring to look at the damage.

Mike asked a few pages back how much these wheels weigh and the answer is 10.5kg without tyres. Not light, but bloody strong. I had a meeting with a kerb at around 60mph a little while back and still drove over 20 miles home without so much as a wobbly steering wheel. It was totally my fault. Combination of unfamiliar, unlit NSL road, another car tailgating and then an oncoming van not turning off his main beam and dazzling me. The result was a new wheel and tyre, but no other damage that I've noticed...

When I turned off later I saw the car behind was a Lotus Evora, so I was never gonna drop him!
