Passenger Seat Rattles

(1/2) > >>

rdfcpete:
I've got what can only be described as a 'squeak' which seems to be coming from the passenger seat when suspension is used either on uneven roads or a bump of most kinds.

I don't think it's;

* The glovebox
* Any of the door panels (Given them a good bang/firm tap)
* The panels surrounding the centre console/gear gator
Which leaves only the seat and there's certainly where it sounds like it's from. It still happens when someones is sat in the seat too, i.e. when weight is applied.

Is it likely that the seat struts or something within the seat can be loose and if so, what's common with coming loose here?

Thanks
- Pete.

My passenger seat was making a noise - I just moved it back on the rails one notch and the noise went.  I guess you've tried something this simple but if not its worth a shot.

rdfcpete:
I have fella, thanks though.

If it was the plastic rails, it's something I could have a crack at. This seems to almost be something under the seat or the metal rails themselves?  :confused:

JJ:
I had similar symptoms this year with my driver's seat.  When going for the clutch, my left leg would press down onto the seat and it made a really horrible sounding squeak.  It only squeaked when extra pressure was applied.   By that I mean it didn't squeak when I was just sat going along over uneven surfaces and speed bumps.  I had the seat assembly replaced under warranty and it cured the problem.

rdfcpete:
^ That sounds most bizarre JJ. It's good the dealer (assuming it was VW) were amenable about it.

This is simply a case of a squeak from the seat components, somewhere. I'm going to tighten every screw on show under the seat itself and go from there. The larger black hexagonal looking bolts  with about 10 edges that hold the seat to the rail, what are they called?

Thanks.
