Those of you with seat inserts....................
« on: February 13, 2009, 04:21:51 pm »
First of all, big thanks to Gulfstream11 for sorting out the .:R in the middle and supplying these little fella's:

Much better quality than I thought they were going to be, well made and thick enough to fill the void properly  :happy2:

My question, those of you that have them, how have you glued them down? what's best to use?

I stuck a red piece of paper behind mine for the GTI look (as advised by gulfstream)
then stuck em down with double sided tape   :happy2:

I put down some red electrical tape (three or four layers) neatly cut with a craft knife, then superglued it down. For the foot rest, I used double-sided sticky pads (lots of them), applied it in place and then sat in the car with as much force as possible on the foot rest to keep it stuck down. Was there for about twenty minutes.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I just stuck some red electrical tape underneath the 'GTI' and folded if over, so effectively it is double-sided. Then just pushed it into place, and it hasn't moved since!

Even though its only stuck on with the electrical tape, it sits so snugly in the gap that it doesn't move/protrude upwards at all!

Very nice product, very good price, very good individual to deal with  :happy2:

I am not sure superglue is a good idea, its powerful stuff that, once the red tape fades and goes pink after a while you may struggle to remove it again when you want to replace the tape.

My red tape faided recently, but with Red electrical tape holding it down, was easy to remove and replace with fresh.

I'll worry about that when I come to it. At the mo, my two biggest concerns are:

1. getting the car serviced
2. whether the weather will be good enough tomorrow for a detail incl. machine polish
3. how the hell the door sills got so dirty when I cleaned them only three weeks ago. Does anyone wax their door sills?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Nah mate, chill. Unless you see the angry smileys, it's all cool. Wasn't bothered when I fitted them and I used only a couple of dabs rather than slapping it everywhere so should be okay.

i find with a mk5, the sills get almost as dirty as the exterior. i will be sealing them with zaino, next time i get a chance and ill be washing just as i do the interior. only takes 10 secs

I understand the driver's sills getting dirty but the other three sills (5-dr) are dirty despite the last time they were opened was when I cleaned them! Was going to have another stab ealier today but had a nap instead!
