Heated seat burned seat cover on 2006 GTI (and clothing!)

Thanks for the advice.
I have spoken to an ex-VW tech and he said loads came in for recalls and many with burns, Mk5/Touran/and the odd Polo etc
Apparently the leather cars used to really smell when the leather burnt
Repair is £200 for new cover (which comes with element) and some padding + labour
