I've just acquired a 2006 5dr GTi DSG having been unable to resist the happy memories of the 16v Golf Mk 2 I had from new in the 80s (it was so new it came without the 'standard' central locking and electric windows - yes, peeps, so different to today when even the cheapest cars get them).

Mine is in metallic black and comes with just about all the comforts except heated seats.

I want to personalize him/her with replacement alloys (mine have the dreaded worms), replacement tyres (the previous owner fitted ditchfinders) and such electronic aids as a GPS speedo/camera warner and a digital video (I've had so many near misses with idiots I want evidence), but other than that I'll be keeping her standard.

I was brought up on VWs.  My parents were very active in the VW Owners Club when I was growing up back in the days when 'VW' was synonymous with 'Beetle' and my first car was a Gold Beetle that I cherished for 3 years.  And how I loved my 3 years with my 16v.......

I'm looking forward to the forums and meeting people here.
