Noisy Radiator Fan
« on: January 13, 2011, 12:21:10 pm »
When I got my ED30 way back in August I noticed the fan on the radiator was pretty noisy, I assumed this was the way they were meant to be but while browsing the forum the other day came across a thread saying it maybe because the smaller of the two isn't working.

I switched the Air Con on this morning and popped the bonnet to check and only the large (noisy) fan was spinning.

I've searched through quite a few posts but most people had this done under warranty, unfortunately my car is no longer in warranty. I've heard that they changed manufacturers of fans thus you have to get both of them replaced which works out to be pretty expensive. My car is an O7 plate (March) so I don't know if this makes any difference with what brand of fan will be fitted. I tried to find the part label but guess it's on the actual fan under the plastic cover/case.

What have other people done? I'm already saving for a service/CAM belt change thus I need this fix to be cheap

Edit

Just spoken to my local Stealers. They were pretty clueless about this to be honest - They quoted me part number 1K0 959 455 ET at a price of £155.64 and told me the manufacturer is Siemens. A specialist told me the fans they would get would be by Brose and that the makes are not interchangeable, thus they would need to replace both the small and large as my original fans would be by Siemens.

Anyone come across this problem?
