Sunset Red 1.4 TSI(TFSI) GT Sport - daily drive & track car

The cloth was very wrinkled on the door cars so I decided to change them completely:
I chose leather door cards because they seem to hold on better over time.
The trim was that of the GTSport - not sure if it was changed or not...
The door cards came of a '07 Golf. My Golf is '07 but MY 2008. But apparently a few things changed in that model year. Here are my findings (for those interested):
1. The wiring loom changed completely. If you use the incorrect version almost nothing will work.
2. There is one extra clip in the MY 07 vs MY 08
3. The trim is better insulated (I think for rattles) in the MY 08.
4. There is a plastic tray in the door tray in the MY 07 one and there is only some soundproofing in the MY 08 one.
The door cards and the armrest were in dire need of a proper clean and, after that, I installed them.

All in all, the new door cards are not perfect but they are 9/10 - which is good enough right now :).
Really happy that I managed to do this.

Looking good👍🏻

A few years back, I bought this:
which turned out to be very low quality and the jack port itself was very flimsy.
So, as I was shopping the OEM shops for some parts for my other VAG cars, I found this (OEM AUX input):
I took the whole dash apart to see if I can find some alternative locations for mounting and, in the end, I settled for mounting it in the centre storage (ex ash tray) compartment.
I also added a spring loaded 12v cover as it was nicer than the cigarette plug...
Now I can comfortably stream music from my mobile phone :drinking:

Getting this thread up to date...
Nothing major going on. Constant small mods or maintenance:
Changed the armrest lid with a brand new one:
Changed the oil to Mobil 1:
I've been using Motul 300V (5w40) for more than 15 years, but I really liked how my Caymans or 911's behaved (including on track) with the Mobil 1 0w40.
Since the Mobil 1 is also VW compliant (502.00 - as requested for my engine) I decided to make the switch.
I have to say I love the nqsbbk! And it's been used and abused...
Bought new pads and the rotors are next (but only next year, or even beyond that)... Brexit is making the J-Hook purchase much more difficult so I think I will switch to something else :(.
And some pictures from the latest track day (two weeks ago):
I'll detail the experience in a later thread once the video is also ready.

So, as I was saying, more information about the latest track day...
The car performed great, once more. I still have the random missfire issue that the car has been plagued with since the start but it did not interfere with the having fun part. Not being able to rev the engine past 6k for the fear of missfire will have an impact on the time. Thankfully I've had faster cars so the "time" part is irrelevant. The "fun" part is all that matters.
And, as I am sure you all know, it is loads more fun (but also dangerous) to drive a car fast in the rain. I would have pushed more (and maybe had more moments like 3:25) but the barriers are quite close and I didn't feel like crashing. I am still recovering from my trackday accident and I am taking it one step at a time.
The car is equipped with Michelin Pilot Supersport which should be better than 4S in the dry and worse in the wet.
The car's balance is great, just the way I like it. It is predictable and a bit tail happy - because of the thicker H&R sway bar on the rear compared to the front. I really love this car!
Next week it's the car's 18th birthday and I plan to continue the mods in the years to come - but nothing radical planned at the moment...
Some photos from the trackday of the, now, old lady :driver:
Cheers!
