Which is the best brand for performance upgrades?
londonboyperth:
Hi Guys,
I posted the other day and recieved great help.
I have a 2007 3-door GTI. It is as new with the 147kw engine and DSG. I was thinking about giving it a bit of a performane upgrade....but I am very new to this sort of thing....my experience of performance modifications has previously been on 1970's Australian 'muscle' cars when I was a bit younger...this is because I live in Australia (the closest thing to these would be Ford Mustangs etc).
I have been reading a few of the posts as well as a few of the links to find out more information. However I am a tad confused!
I understand that Stage 1, Stage 2 etc means more money and more 'work' to the engine. But I have a few questions.
Firstly, does the expression 'remapping' mean the same thing as a car being 'chipped'? This is the expression I hear people using in Australia.
Secondly, what is the best brand for doing these modifications? I see a few such as Revo and APR...but there is another one which has been mentioned to me called 'Otinger'. I know I have spelt it incorrectly because I was reading about them the other day but am now unable to find anything on them, probably because my spelling is completely wrong! Doh!
As I said, I am in Australia so this could be a factor as to what I choose also. VW is not a significant player here, like they are in the UK (I lived in London for 13 years, so I know this and enjoyed many years of GTI and VR6 motoring). It is far more common here to see Subaru's etc chugging along with evry imaginable modification. Jap car losers I say!
Cheers in advance!

remapping and chipping are different methods of tuning but achieve the same aim. A chip would be installed/soldered onto your ecu. a remap overwrites the software on you ECU and is purely an electronic upgrade.
stage 1 is for standard cars, stage 2 for cars with an exhaust, stage 2+ is for cars with an exhaust and uprated fuel pump.
no idea what tuners you have over there though, ottinger is a german brand if i remember correctly

öttinger is a german tuning company that are owned by APR and share most of the software, meaning that they both offer a solution where you are able to change maps through your cruise control stalk. You also gain the possibility to erase error codes via the CC stalk and also a anti theft solution via the CC stalk. The software are to my understanding approved in 52 of the states and as such are pretty "safe" in it's settings. I have recieved great customer service via Arin and their tech guys. IMO at your level they'll offer a great package and the comfort of their CC stalk solution is unsurpassed.
Revo will to my understanding be better at optimize the software to your specific needs and as a counterstrike to APR's cc stalk solution they offer a SPS unit that allows you to tweak settings yourself within a safe margin. though the SPS is not so convient as the APR solution it is more oriented towards those that want to meddle themselves.
As a start get a free flowing filter and a good 3" turboback and you'll be smilling all day long when you get the car remapped. You won't look back :happy2: :driver:

....I spoke to Kate at JKM recently about APR and they are offering APR remaps IIRC. 0239 263 9933. :happy2:
Please let me know if I was wrong and it's the APR hardware they're still doing.
