Dont get put off about reliability of DSG. The few cases of failures of mech's units are generally caught under warranty. Little or very few fail after long term ownership..

I cant remember a case of slipping clutches on an Ed30... Plenty remap manuals doing it though

Bit mis-leading that Steve.

To the Op - Do your homework, a poorly maintained DSG box is a ticking bomb, also there seems to be no predictable nature to the failures, fairly new boxes fail, with the same annoying regularity of older higher miles boxes, there are some very high miles boxes that are still good, (I believe RR's Mech unit has been in for 80+k since it was replaced many moons ago) and some with no miles that are not so good.

So check your service history, specifically the DSG history, google is your friend for further advice.  Also remember a DSG owner is likely to be biased towards their preference.  I Drive a manual, just prefer it, nothing against a DSG.

And my final bit of advice, think about a warranty, hate for it to go awry and you have to find it from your pocket.

Maintaince goes without saying ...

RR's failed before it's 1st service afaik..

Don't be put off by people that claim dsg mech's being a major issue when deciding whether to purchase or not.
Weigh up the pro's and Cons, and also do take note of what Real life owners say in what they think of dsg or S-tronic boxes.
Use the search function, there was a poll I posted with about failing mechs, which did seem to highlight cars in the 57/08 reg having more issues then others.
But what I can assure you, although QD says otherwise, it's not a Common problem to older cars, and that most had issues in manufactures warranty, less so out of warranty.

There was a dsg owners forum posted a while ago, but had little more then 20 members on as registered, with niggles, but again, not a forum with 100's of complaints. :innocent:

Again, with any purchase of a car from a dealer or garage, a years warranty is normally given, which would cover you in the possible event of you buying a car with a faulty mech's, that the previous keeper didn't disclose.

in guess I've been lucky, having owned 4 dsg cars with not one single issue, but there is a case of a new owner on another forum, who's had a 2nd mechs fail, but again, under warranty.

Good luck with your search

it's a great car And even better in my opinion with DSG :happy2:

Edit.....
Website in question...Not busy but have a look

QD MBE:
Steve, that's better.   :happy2:

For the record, I have nothing against DSG, just like 'open and honest' advice.

I don't say there is a lot of failures, there are more failures than there should be, Plenty more than are displayed on this forum as the members on the forum tend to maintain their cars properly.  Must be something in it when VW USA give a 10 year transmission manufacturers warranty on DSG cars.

Again, to the OP do your homework.  Great box if you want a 'semi-auto, and if you do your homework and get a good one.
