Slow coolant leak where to check

(1/2) > >>

Richn83:
Hi all, gave the car a good clean today and did the usual under the bonnet checks, had noticed a small wet patch under the car (not moved for over a week) and the coolant had gone down below minimum line.

So it seems that something is slowly leaking coolant from above I cant see anything obviously wet so I will need to probe a little deeper once the water from washing has dried, my question to you lovely people is:

where are there known areas that could have leaks?

and anything I should take off to get the best view (engine under try for example)?

For info water pump was changed with cambelt nearly a year ago and there has been no recent servicing other than coil pack and spark plug change.

Cheers

is usually a junction on top of the gearbox one hell of a job to get at, new part is under £30.

Rich I know mine is a diesel but I think they use the same configuration on the cooling, there is a coolant pipe at the front of the engine look for any sign of water crystallizing where it goes into the block.  And also under the coolant bottle, the bottles have been known to heat up and crack.

Also has Sie said look for coolant ontop of the gearbox where it would collect if theres a leak?

just check its not the aircon vent under the car and that the coolant loss is purely incidental since you noted the water. i made this mistake and reversed a previous car into a pillar looking for a leak that was never there ,2000 quid later the shame

Worth looking at rad, a common fault I have been told , I have just had a new one fitted after coolant loss mainly in summer but was getting worse. My car is a 05 plate tdi with 47k on it.
