dull pop/crack from the front end

Hi, just recently ive been getting a dull pop/crack sound from the front end whilst moving slowly forward/back, it seems to be more apparent when the car is cold, and also the sound is created more the quicker you go (still travelling slowly though i.e going from say 3mph to 6 mph). However once up to speed the car sounds as it should. The car is booked in on friday for the garage to have a look, but i wondered if anyone had encountered something similar?
Any help appreciated
