But its true.... It is common on SOME GTi's.

Or would you prefer the terms:

A FEW

NONE

ALL

?

Ok, shall we settle on 'it has happened a few times that we are aware of'?  :signLOL:

Done, deal, settled.

so is it an easy fix? once the problem has been sorted could it happen again?

what causes the ignition coil to just go like that?

its a VW approved remap basicly that happens before the car is imported into the uk, it still keeps the full VW warranty.

is basically just a remap upto 245bhp

back to the ignition problem - is this a big job to fix? will i experience problems in the future with this remap?

what could be causing it?

08micsta:
Hello

Its not a major issue.

Just a few pointers:

1. I have no idea why the coil has gone. Is it not a coil pack? If its not a coil pack then I apologise as I seemed to have read it as a coilpack that had melted....

2. The remap does not cause the issue. The parts that are damaged have nothing to do with the remap. We have GTi's here running much more ferocious maps and they have had no problem. To clarify. The remap is not physical. Nothing changes on the car itself. All a remap does is change the settings in the cars Engine control unit or ECU. These slight changes in settings produce more power etc.

Dont fret too much about it. VW are fixing the problem for free and this is the first time I have ever heard about this. Maybe give your post a day or two and some of the "experts" can comment.

Mike
