I decided after a closer look at my front grille I should probably do something about it. Its over 250 large ones for a new front grille if you pay stealer prices and I didn't want to go that far. It seems the fleabay ones may be a little hit and miss so I decided for now to just tackle the pin stripe. A few things first... I know its not the correct colour.. I chose Mars Red 2 and I think it should have been Tornado Red but hey I could always sand and paint again. Second... I broke a few locating tangs as the plastic is very fragile and I mean like... touch them like you would your girlfriend

So the pictures speak for themselves. Remove by taking the front grille off, 4 screws. Then carefully push and jiggle each red tang from the engine side and DO NOT try to lever the pin stripe from the front... it will break those tangs (I broke 2). I scraped as much of the old lacquer off as I could then wet sanded with a little 2500 to key the surface. 4 coats of paint as per instructions and 2 coats of lacquer. Voila... I think it looks pretty good and will at least last until I really want to replace the entire grille.

Went for a cheap eBay job myself.

Obviously the part isn't the same a genuine one at all, but i'm happy not to have grey plastics anymore.

Which one did you go for in the end and is the quality ok?

I see a lot of genuine stuff coming from that guy in Vilnius, Latvia on Fleabay. Has anyone had any experience of buying from them . They say OEM and are always a lot cheaper than UK OEM parts. Should I be suspicious?

I got a quote from RPS online for a new grill - £154 delivered. 100% OEM as it's coming from a listers dealership.

I'll dig the buyer out. The quality is alright, the fitment is decent but you can tell that it's not oem.

I'll post a pic and see what you think mate.

https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=113852.0  :happy2:

That's the kit you if you want comfort.  I did get some weird snap under-steer from that kit though, which I didn't get with the standard suspension or coilovers.  Same corner, same weather conditions.

If you research the pros and cons of progressive rate springs, unpredictable behaviour on bumpy corners is one of the cons.

Apart from that, it's good for the money.

Yesterday I did a few jobs,
Cam follower, oil pick up, new diverter valve and pcv, new coil packs and spark plugs, oil and filter, pollen filter and fuel filter.
Had a busy day but got it all done.

I have had an oil leak for the last 2 years on the rear of the cam cover gasket.... so....

Replaced...

cam cover seal (actually used my own guide on here :signLOL: )
front pcv and seal
rear pcv pipes and fasteners
oil 5w40 millers nt+
oil filter
cabin filter

and under-tray which was a) covered in oil and b) ripped to bits by a piece of tarmac I hit a few months ago.

@rich83 good work. It looks a bit like my undertray did after it broke when I was being towed. Couldn’t brake hard enough going in to a roundabout and the towing rope got caught around it. All I could do was listen to it breaking and inspect it when I got home. I just repaired it with some epoxy and carbon fibre, as you do.

Replaced the cam follower and the release valve that I accidentally bought when seeking another part around there.

Think I was being super paranoid because the cam follower was in great condition.

Oh well, fresh parts  :happy2:

Today I had this done, raided the piggy bank, Sexy Stainless Steel. Top blokes. Top exhaust. Nige and Dave really know their stuff. I know its just a CAT back and not a powervalve and I will need the down pipe and sports CAT at some point but its a start. The sound is absolutely awesome, understated and so much better than OEM. I just drove back from BCS and there is absolutely no drone at all. The quality of those welds on the silencers (Mufflers for you US folks) is amazing and perfect...  so smooth. I just had to fondle them while it was up in the air as I probably will never touch them again  :happy2: Hmm ... that sounds all wrong

It also highlights those terrible rusty suspension components.. ah well another job on the list.

Swapped my seats to some I’ve always wanted

Booked in with the trimmer to sort my saggy foam!

Very happy, even after the 6 1/2 hour round trip to pick them up
