Today (and yesterday) I mostly fitted the Mk7 style climatronic controls and Air Quality Sensor (and single motor recirculation flaps). Also passive TPMS and a USB charging port.

Spot the difference... same car 5 years apart. Love how you can update these things!
Before

After

If you have dual motor recirculation flaps, updating to the later single motor flaps (to stop the windows misting after the Mk6/Mk7 panel upgrade) is quite a job, I wouldn't want to do it again.

Where did you get the mk5 to mk7 trim surround? or did you make it yourself?

The manual bonnet latch had been playing up for a while but had become completely useless recently.
Time for a good clean!

Took it off, very simple, just 3 torx bolts. Dipped it in petrol to move the grime.

Thought perhaps a soak would be better.

Which went horribly wrong!

.

New container.

After some scrubbing, dismanteling and some more scrubbing, the end result is working but not perfect. Add some oil to the joints and your good to go!

Was pitch black when i put it back on but it does work now.

@willni I made it. Turned out better than I'd hoped.

Standard Mk5 one for colour comparison, the custom one has been sprayed.

I want to make another one with the silver trim just under the long row of buttons as on the Mk7, so a bit more cutting/shutting on the next one. Interestingly, while the Mk7 and Scirocco/Passat panels look the same the holes for the dials and off/sync buttons are bigger on the Mk7 panels.

@GPem3:16 I did the same as @ady-uk and others; Scirocco bottom panel and Golf top. I'm not sure where everyone else joins them, but I joined them where the bit that sits behind the vent panel and over the top of the stereo meets the main panel. If you can get the length of the bit either side of the stereo to the correct length and nice and square you're onto a winner, I also adjusted some of the rear clips and removed the top 2 as they are slightly different heights to a Mk5 panel.

This is the paint that I found matched well and was very forgiving. I've taken some pics so maybe I'll do a guide at some point.

Took a night time shot of the new AC controls with the rest of the upgrades. Really pleased with the look in day or night now; it all finally matches.

For the past few days I've been trying to diagnose a noise that seems to start on a long right hand turn. Decided it must be suspension/steering related. This car's cost me more than a 1994 RX7 was costing me

Canbus I'm guessing is the twisted wires.
Any help with the others.

Thanks
