Removed the decat downpipe and sent it to the welders to have a 200 cell sports car welded in. I'm hoping;

1. It will pass mot
2. It will be quieter

Now the big question and one I'm getting split opinions on is will the current map that's on the car need to be altered after going from decat to sports cat? If it does and I carry on driving it what is likely to happen?

So i put the downpipe back on today with the sports cat fitted and it is still asbo loud! Currently have 3 inch downpipe w/sports cat>>>>3 inch straight pipe>>>>Original backbox

Any suggestions for a cheap fix to the loudness? if i can get hold of an original middle section with silencer this will need a reducer from the downpipe i take it? Thanks

It's the pipe diameter and silencer count/volume that causes the ASBOness.

You could try adding a 3" mid silencer to shut it up a bit.  TBH, even just a 3" DP with sports cat hooked up to the factory Cat back significantly increases the noise.  The OEM system is quiet because the DP is only 2.5" and has 2 cats.

Based on feedback on here, I think only the Powervalve Prestige systems get anywhere near OEM levels of quietness, cruising on the motorway at least.

Replaced the seals in the vacuum pump.

I had to bodge a new piece of conduit as the old one had hole due to rubbing against the vacuum pump. This then filled with oil.

So far no leaks.

More importantly I need a new leash for the fuel cap as it snapped. I know my wife will drive off without it

Bought a new headunit (Kenwood 518vdabs) and an after market reverse emblem flip camera. Will do a proper write up once camera arrives. Also pulled the trigger on the gladen 3 way, amp and a 10” slim sub. Car’s getting some love.

Fitted the head unit today and it makes a world of difference to the stock speakers.

Was thinking last week how reliable my MK5 has been of late. Of course this tempted fate and I walked onto the drive today to see a small pool of oil under the front bumper. Peaked into the engine to investigate and now my bonnet won't close. Never a dull moment with a MK5! :)

Nice upgrade, it sems that you can change the color of the buttons to blue, will be more OEM. For sure it will be better than the chinese Android units.

Spring is round the corner so out came the toolbox yesterday, removed both front wheels, wheel liners, jet washed and cleaned all inner wing areas and removed the dreaded wing foam insert!!!
Inner wing and cavities then fully wax-oiled especially the front of the sill area

Cleaned all the wheel liners and replaced all the securing Torx screws with OEM new parts.
Ordered some new centre caps for the wheels too, horrendously expensive but it's all about the fine details.

Unfortunately found a broken coil spring on N/S so this will be addressed next week:-( However I guess this was the source of my knocking I had noticed recently so not all bad.. Plus may be an excuse to upgrade the entire suspension

Looking forward: New front tyres, oil and filter change, full paint correction and detailing!!

Cheers
Max

The bonnet latch is a common problem with these. I had to change mine as the same thing happened and I couldn’t close it. Much better than not being able to open it though. I used this guide to help if you’re not familiar with doing it.
