The ED30 had some TLC at the garage today:

Minor Service with some fresh Castrol Edge Professional 5W30
New cam follower
Cambelt and Water pump changed - turns out the water pump had a slight leak
New fuel filter
Sunroof rails cleaned and lubed

Rich

Car displayed a check engine light as well as a new weird vibration in the cabin - vibration only appeared when engine was warm and at idle - goes away when you touch the throttle. Did a quick scan and the error code was P0171 - System running lean on bank 1. Back to the garage it went.

The vibration turned out to be a fuel line that hadn't been clipped back in place. Easy fix.
The Error code was caused by a split in a vacuum hose - they ran a smoke test and found the split.

During their investigation for the vibration, they noticed the drivers rear brake stone guard was loose and rattling. This was due to a couple of the screw mounting holes had corroded. Had a new guard fitted.

All is good again. Car feels more responsive and slightly better fuel economy. Hard to contribute to the new fuel filter or having the split hose replaced did the trick?

Anyway, im happy again!

Rich

The rivets holding the metal case are quite robust aren't they? Over the top, but typical of VW.

Cleaned out my inlet ports over the weekend! Car no longer chugs on start up. It did take a while though...!

Indeed!
I luckily managed to drill one out and just bend the casing enough to pop the siren out
Awkward angling my riveter to pop it back on though but managed

New hpfp with vis internals from aks. Awesome service from them, got the pump the day after ordering it. Fitted a new cam follower and hpfp solenoid cover whilst I was there.

Cracked one of the pcv plastic hoses so had to pay tps £24 for what must cost pence to make.

Ordered a rubber hose from ecs to replace the brittle plastic one.

Not actually done anything to it but made the decision to keep going with the car instead of just running it until February/March and then getting rid. So started to make a list of what I want to do with it:
- refurb the DSG shifter surround
- new front door interior grab handles/switch surrounds
- replace near side, back door B pillar trim
- replace near side, front door skin (has a little dent and I'd rather it not be full of filler - see further down)
- fix the little roof on the centre console cubby hole. I think this means removing the entire centre console thing. Nice...
- oem xenon headlight retrofit
- full respray
- oem black washer bottle top
- Porsche coolant and oil caps
- Milltek etc exhaust
- AP coilovers
- replace the wheels - thinking BBS Pescaras, Fifteen52 Tarmac, Rotiform BUC...
- fit new steering wheel with a more modern one as mine looks a bit tired
- mk6 heater control retrofit

Hoping to have the majority of that done apart from the wheels and respray by the end of Feb at which point I can decide whether to go all out or strip off some parts, put the car back to standard(ish) and flog it all...

that is some list but the car will be transformed after that.

That’s what I thought. It started out innocently enough: some switches, interior plastics, b pillar trim. What? Full respray! Sh!t just got serious.

Kinda think it's worth it. Had loads more expensive cars but getting this properly sorted will make me much happier than just going out and buying something "normal". Wife loves it too so why not

Bought a clay bar for the old diesel workhorse. The roof looks as rough as a tramps foot.

Niki @ R-Tech advised me that the KO4 conversion is complete, so booked my train tickets for tomorrow. Can’t wait to drive it
