New windscreen - anything I should look out for???

<< < (2/4) > >>

luca:
Mine is being replaced on thursday. Ive had to wait a week for the windscreen( i stressed vw glass only), i'll be at work though so will get my dad to keep an eye on the fitter.
The insurance said something about the gti/ed30/r32 have a diffrerent shade windscreen or something

vwrascal:
think the GTI is blue, they messed up on mine and sent a green one first- but it aint genuine VW glass, didnt know you could have this until becoming member on here

neo66:
I believe the blue tinted windows are on earlier Mk5 Gti's and Green on the later models but not sure of the cross over year!??

Shaun:
Quick update on my OP.

Guy from Autoglass came out at the agreed time... turns out he's a car nut and is as anal about his H***a C***c Type R as I am about my Ed30 so he took great care and as far as I can tell has done a perfect job. Local dealers had even supplied the right colour glass (it's green in my '07 Ed30 BTW) - miracle.

Before starting work he warned me that the rain sensor on Mk5's either pops off the old screen really easily or else is absolutely impossible - there's no rhyme nor reason based on model, spec or year of manufacture apparently.

Sadly mine just wouldn't come off - he actually cracked the old screen trying to prise it away to show me! They've ordered another and as soon as it arrives they'll call me to arrange fitting - apparently it's a 5 minute job.

Overall I'm delighted.

Cheers,

Shaun

Greeners:

We always get to hear the horror stories so good to hear when things go well!
