A little background info provided by Dale at VW July 2016; not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but relates solely to the register, so here it is:
"There were 2,283 Golf GTI Edition 30 models imported by us for the UK market and these all have an individual plaque number. We are aware that there are other right-hand drive models in the UK but these were built to the German specification and so were in no way connected to us here."
