Constant steering adjustments whilst driving in a straight line.
Black9:
Does anyone else have to make them, just had my 4 wheel alignment done and have found after, I need to make small adjustments even on straight roads. I know every road has a slight off camber but is this normal? The steering itself seems ok but the constant adjustments are getting a bit annoying. The car has 18" Monza wheels and 4 new tyres too!
The front tyres are Vreds and according to the guy who done the alignment they're known for causing cars to pull due to their tread design :scared:
Boothy:
I have the same tires and mine doesn't pull or tramline really, maybe in extreme circumstance but not usually. Certain setups can exaggerate the effect you talk of such as positive/negative camber and the wheel toeing in/out. It may be that the original set up was using these setting to reduce the wandering and the guy who has done the alignment has removed the effect by setting them up dead straight etc?
I've never had a four wheel alignment on the Golf so I'm just theorizing really but the set up definitely has an effect on stability vs cornering.
MPS:
I feel I could take my hands off the wheel @ 70mph if I wanted, that's how planted my car feels!
Tfsi_Mike:
Are all four of your tyres matched?
When I temporarily had r888 front hood year F1 rear the handling was bizzare.
Black9:
My car feels quite well balanced and stable at higher speeds, I just find myself having to make small ajustments to the steering every so often.
The tyres are matched at the front, 2X Vreds Ultrac sessanta and the rear are 2 budgets(which came on the car) 2X autogrip tyres. Reason I kept the autogrip tyres are cause theyre basically brand new with loads of tread.
But the budgets are on the rear so would this make that much of a difference to the front steering inputs?
Also I drove around for 1 week plus with the Vreds when the alignment was out, could this have changed the shape of the tyre causing them to pull slightly? As the alignment machine says it can find no faults with the cars suspension. He did say he had increase or decrease the front toe angle, can't remember which :scared:
Thanks for the replies :happy2:
