A few pics - Winter Protection Detail on my Edition 30 Golf (Black)

(1/3) > >>

RussZS:
Not many pics on this I'm afraid, as I was in a rush, but wanted to try Auto Finesse's Tough Coat on my black Golf, as I normally stick to waxes on black as I find sealants a bit too "sterile" looking for me.

The car is in desperate need of a machine polish, which I will do sometime in November, when I have a quite weekend.  I intend a full correction and to trial Optimum Opti Coat 2.0 (which I got from Elite) which provides you with a sacrificial layer on top of your clearcoat, so any scratches and swirls are in the coating and not your paint.  It can also be lightly machine polished, and is more swirl resistant than clearcoat... anyway, that's for another thread.

This was literally a 60 minute 'hand job' with Auto Finesse Tripple (great AIO which cleans and protects) followed by a single layer of Auto Finesse's Tough Coat sealant.

I used Megs NXT on the exhaust, AF Mint Rims on the alloys, AF Crystal on the glass (which is protected with Nanolex Premium) and CarPro PERL on the tyres (looks nice, but not glossy enough for me, so I'll be sticking with Pinnacle Black Onyx on my own car)

I'm very happy with the way it looks.  It almost has a waxy 'shimmer' to it.  Application and removal are really easy too!  Great new sealant IMO!

Thanks,

Russ

I think I need to see that car in the flesh!

How clear is the metallic flake? I found that FK1000P for example seemed to mute it, whereas say Powerlock didn't.

Is that your new unit?

RussZS:
I wish it was mine buddy, but I do have access to it now for a small fee :)

1000P is overrated on bodywork I find, its a good choice for wheels though.

The flake pop from Tough Coat is stunning.

I'll let you see it when it's fully corrected and wearing Opti Coat lol, the roof in particular is a bit of a mess still :(

stealthwolf:
My winter LSP has been two coats of FK1000P and two of Collinite. Overkill for sure but lasted me through six months each time.

Oh it will easily last you through

If you want ultimate protection, then perhaps look at one of these long life nano/resin/ceramic sealants?

I'm going for Optimum Opti Coat on my own car, which gives you a 2-3 micron thick resin coating, which is more swirl resistant than clearcoat.  It can even be machine polished with certain polishes!  Durability is 2 years+.

It means you're never etching, swirling or scratching your original paint.  The beading is insane too.
