insurance when modding

hi guys
as i,m sure you,ll all fed up withhearing and answering dumb questions.. i,m looking to slide down that slope and change some stuff on my car,
it occurred to me about my insurance.
am with direct line at mo £825 PA-
i,m 43.
i have 4yrs no claims
i had two claims in may/oct 07
off st parking
usual cover
they have just quoted me and extra 235 for last 6months of policy if i remap and lower which ia yearly total of 1100 :fighting:
i gota be able to do better than that surely??
any pointers/help companies i should try now?

Despite your age and NCB, with two recent claims, that's probably about right. With two claims so close together, they'll have classed you as high risk. That said, regular insurance companies arent that keen on modifications despite thing like remaps becoming common place. You can either bite the bullet and pay-up or wait until renewal time then switch to specialist insurer who hopefully will be a tad cheaper.

Try Greenlight Insurance - they weren't bothered about my Superchips remap on my Edition 30 .... and were cheaper than Elephant for me by £3 anyway (+elephant wouldn't even cover the mod!)
FWIW I am in London, 43 years old, max NCB though = £497
