I read an great little article in the F1 magazine last month about the two different types of cornering. The two types being something like:
Continuous cornering(or words to that effect) ie travelling around the corner in one continuous and smooth steering movement without steering out of the turn until they make the apex.
and
VEE cornering (or words to that effect) ie breaking a corner into 2-3 separate blocks in which you turn and then straighten the car before turning again in multiple blocks.
It goes into some interesting detail into how they do both and the benefits on tyres and speed etc, but basically all the fastest drivers on each team seem to use the VEE method, and the slowest use the continuous cornering technique. I havent got the magazine anymore since my wife decided i obviously no longer wanted it, but iirc the list was:
Continuous method;
Button
Massa
Di Resta
Grojeon
Rosberg
and a few others that no one cares about.
VEE Block method;
Raikonen
Vettel
Hamilton
Suttil
Schumacher
and a few others no one cares about.
Interestingly they say Alonso and Webber dont fall under either as they utilize both methods. I cant remember the other drivers within each but typically the fastest drivers adopt the VEE technique and the same thing seems to apply to previous drivers as well.

Really so smooth cornering is not the best method :confused:

Just a heads-up to say that Lewis Hamilton is on The Graham Norton Show on BBC1 tonight at 10:35pm :happy2:

Looks that way. Its just like trail braking into a corner in a FWD car is a much faster way of cornering than driving in a smooth continuous turn. Continuous and smooth cornering is probably better for the tyres and wear and tear, but ultimately it seems like its just not as fast
