Exhaust wrap on intake?

i HATE the way that shiny foil stuff looks

found some black exhaust wrap instead. is there any reason i can't use it? i know that on an exhaust it's meant to keep heat IN and for this i'm trying to keep heat OUT, but surely it'll still work?

Not sure as the shiny stuff is reflecting heat away...

It never looks good because it's so difficult to achieve a tidy wrap without badly creasing it and every imperfection is emphasised. The shininess also looks bling. However, it's the shiny reflective property which helps it do what it's claimed. I'm not convinced that it's worth doing at all on a fast road car but a race car will be operating at high temperatures all the time.

I only gold wrapped my intake's heatshield:

my intake is currently being butchered by vRSAlex because it's cheap BSH tat that doesn't fit properly.

i was gonna get it ceramic coated, but that would be around £300!

i take your point RR about it not being worthwhile on a road car, but i've felt the pipe after a regular commute and it's quite hot. for the few pounds it costs to wrap it i thought i might as well.

if only i could find red or black foil... at least then it wouldn't look so bad.

Yes the 2.0T FSI is a relatively hot running engine. My Milltek exhaust tips are ceramic coated and they stay so cool that you can touch them. Powdercoating might be another option - Is the BSH pipework metal or plastic?

Would a heat resistant paint contribute anything?
