GTi Brake upgrade
Bryn:
Hi Guys, newbie here so go a bit easy
Just recently bought a MK5 GTi DSG, absolutely made up, great little car.
I plan on a Stage 1 tune fairly soon so I'm looking for a suitable brake upgrade.
I dont want any fiddling about (spacers etc) just something that will bolt straight on and fit behind the standard 18" Monza II alloys, also budget is limited :sad1:
Are the S3, TTS, Golf R, R32 brakes all the same? and If I picked up a second hand kit would these fit without any mods?
If some kind sole could advise on a way forward I'd be very grateful
Many thanks
Bryn

I ve got a scirocco gt which I believe shares the same brakes as Ur gti. I know what u mean about them need changing, i m currently running at stage 2.
If weight isn't a issue the R, S3, brakes are a simple option to upgrade them that will give u bigger discs and improved braking.
There are better brakes available but obviously they cost a lot more.

Welcome Bryn  (and Geoff)
Geoff is right regarding the weight of the S3/R32 brakes. They are very heavey. I recently sold my original Ed30/Gti brakes (front and rear) and they weighed about 48kgs.
Just the Front S3/R32 setup is 43kgs :surprised:
Don't get me wrong, I have S3 brakes all round and the difference is like night and day!
They are more than capable brakes for me. They cope well with the odd lap round the Nurburgring, which is the most I ever challenge them!
But if u get the modding bug, you soon be wanting to shed some pounds off the car. This is where most start with some lightweight brakes!

Have a search for the NQSBBK (not-quite-so-big-brake-kit) :happy2:
Uses lightweight Porsche calipers with the standard GTI discs
Either the NQSBBK or the S3/R32 brakes are Highly Recommended.
