What's the best way to prevent rust from starting in the first place?

You could also use something like waxoyl on the underbody, inside panels etc...

I'm thinking about waxoyl in the inside of the bootlid.  My old mk2, mk3 and mk4 all had rust on the inside of the bootlid at about 10 years old.

Cheers both, yep I'll try and keep it clean.

I was thinking of the VW bulletin which states that the foam arch liner is cut. But according to the PDF, the design was changed in 2007 anyway.

Mine is a late 2007 and I had both my wings changed. One was starting to bubble and the other the paint was just starting to lift on the underside.

Had my ed30 drivers side wing done by little Chalfont citygate a couple weeks back, saw the car in daylight for the first time Friday and noticed I can slide my fingers under the bonnet where the headlight has not been fitted correctly. I have contacted them to make them aware and they have said to bring the car back over for the headlight to be adjusted...

Frustrating as its 30 min drive each way plus however long to rectify the problem.

HELP!

Who's had any success with any particular dealer in South Yorkshire / North Nottinghamshire?

I asked the same question a few weeks ago but got no replies... There must be a good dealer in my area?!

Little bit confused here. My car has rust on one wing and around boot badge. Emailed Twickenham VW which is closest to me and got a call back from a girl there giving me the number of a local body shop as they don't have one onsite. I stated that I was after a warranty inspection in the email and on the phone I asked her multiple times if I needed to arrange the warranty inspection with the body shop she was giving me the number for. She just kept saying take it to them as we don't do body work here and didn't really answer my question just sounded as if she wanted to deal with me and move on to her next email/phonecall.

Do I have to take it to a VW dealer that does body work on site? Surely a 3rd party garage wouldn't arrange the inspection without approval from VW first? Can anyone recommend a VW garage either near to Wimbledon/Kingston or near Chichester/Portsmouth area that will be helpful with warranty work? Thanks.

I went back to my local VW under the instruction of VW UK last week. They carried out the same inspection on my car and told me they would see what they could do.

Today I had a call from VW UK to tell me that the front wings on my car will be repaired at no cost to myself.

I will get photos done and let everyone know my process if required.

Is it worth getting it inspected even if you cant see rust. I have a keyed wing and could really do with a new panel

Have a very close look. My drivers side had a very small blemish on the arch face which I picked up by chance.  When VW inspected the car, they found a really tiny blemish on the passenger side on the underside of the lip - something I didn't pick up despite looking really hard.

Update. I was under the impression that VW UK had agreed to replace both front wings through phillips lisburn VW. Only to be told that no they will only repair them due to the rush area being small. So while this was going on I took the car to a different dealer, who I had bought my previous cars from, they sent me to their  bodyshop who's inspection was a lot more thorough. Guess what? The car is now in having 2 NEW front wings fitted FOC...
