Boot Gas Strut Replacement?

Yes the ball joint will just push in and out of the hole with absolutely no resistance.

Livestrong:
I cant find anything online to suggest that it should even be removed

Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Did you find a solution to this problem? My ball joint has come out too! There is nothing to screw it into!
