Yeah that's the joke with my mates - got split Venoms!

Anyway, they are now split!

So will be going in for a spruce up later in the week. I'm not sure about colour so I've been persuaded (told) what colour to have.

We shall see!

No real updates for a while

Schmidts were sold, so car stayed on the Speedlines for the moment.

Had a problem with a blown coil over, running them all the way down for so long had finished the near side one off and the car was horrible to drive.

However Matt @ dubunit has sorted it out good as new : )

Also had a fit if some different wheels

New wheels look good, although I really dig'd the white, was a great color scheme.  Oh and I'm liking your "beater" caddy truck.

So after selling all my wheels over the last couple of weeks, I had the chance of a set of my favourite wheels

A deal was done and they arrived!

Schmidt TH 18 x 8.5
Tyres fitted are 225/40/18's so they're a little tyre heavy. Once funds allow smaller tyres are the plan!!

TH lines are off.

Found out that they can be easily reverse mounted for a little bit more friendly offset.

Wheels are to be split and sorted

Liked how they sat when rolling on to the ramp

Thank you.

Found out the wheels can be reverse mounted easily, so can actually tuck all round!

Wheels are to be split this week. Any ideas for centre colour?

My MK5 Journey - old content now being updated
« Reply #70 on: August 30, 2020, 06:10:47 pm »
So, it’s been a long time coming, but time for an update (of sorts).

The Golf had to go unfortunately, as I got a new job with an extremely long commute.

However it was replaced with another MK5 - a Jetta DSG highline.

Pics of this will follow if I can find some (this was 2014 I think).

Car had a stage 1 remap, and drove extremely well. Was probably the most reliable car I’ve ever had!
Unfortunately it was also the most boring! It was kept completely standard (apart from S3 Brakes) and was a fantastic mile muncher, covering 50K miles in two and a bit years (almost 30K if that in 9 months).

It was then unfortunately hit by someone pulling out of a side road, and unfortunately written off

I drove it for a year, and again it was faultless, before it was then replaced with, exactly the same car again!

This was short lived, as my job changed and I was working much closer to home again.

This was then swapped for a Steel Grey MK5 Golf GTi 3 Door Manual

I bought this car from a friend who runs a VW specialist garage, and was one of the cleanest MK5 golf early shell cars (blue glass and no roof ariel) I had ever seen! I pestered him until he sold it to me.

The car has a bit of an interesting past, as it had owned a long time by someone in the VW scene as his wife’s daily, before he then had the engine transplanted in to his caddy ‘Show Van’.

The car then had a lower mileage BWA engine installed by my friend, to replace the previous AXX that ended up in the caddy van.

This was then run my my friend for 2 years as a well looked after daily, before I got my hands on it .

Then the fun started - over a two year period it became
MK7 Golf R Brakes
17” Monzas
Leather GTi Wingbacks
Round leather GT steering wheel (I much preferred for daily)
RCD 330 - with CarPlay
Depo Projectors with LED Bulbs
Loba Fuel Pump
Turbo back Milltek exhaust (resonated for factory style noise)
Koni Orange struts with HR Springs
K&N typhoon intake kit

It ended up as a bit of a sleeper  :pomppomp:

With a baby on the horizon, and COVID hitting, I briefly flirted with another Jetta as a potential family car - this time a 2.0 TFSI

However, after adding
RCD330
K&N typhoon
Depo Projectors
GTI flat bottom wheel
GTi Wingbacks and leather rear bench
New genuine thermostat and cam follower

I just didn’t have the love for it - and it was promptly sold. The golf continued on daily duties (and is great fun doing so)

However, a 5 door car was still ideally needed for back up family wagon (so I could reasonably transport our daughter if needed).

That brings us to the present.

A Black 2009 MK5 Golf GTi Pirelli DSG

Rather than start a new thread, I might just add to this one.
There are plans on the horizon, but to enhance the Pirelli, rather than “modify it” as such.

Plans are
Milltek Cat-Back Exhaust (resonated)
Pre-Cat removal
Loba Fuel Pump
MK7 GTi performance pack front brakes
RCD330
GT leather DSG/MFSW (to save the Pirelli one)
Stage 1 Map

The 3 Door GTi will be slowly returned to a reasonably standard but well sorted car before it has to be sold (if anyone wants a very clean car).

But project Pirelli will be fun!

Thanks for reading

Hi mate

Thanks - I had always wanted a Pirelli, because of the exclusivity and that interior .

Means I will be pinching some of the parts from the current car, and then selling the rest and the original car as standard.

Just finished the first “enhancement”

We had a rather mint, but very bad RCD300 fitted into the dash.

The standard stereos are something that I think significantly ages an older car, in comparison to newer models.

However, Apple CarPlay is easily added to a MK5 platform car these days, and is one of the first mods I’d recommend to any MK5 owner

New RCD330 fitted with CarPlay
Bringing the car right up to modern in car entertainment standards

Stage 1 of ‘enhancement’ has begun

Since the last update.

Oil Service and all important DSG service was done.

Car is currently on 31800 miles, but oil has been in the box for getting on for 11 years.

Came out looking “well used” shall we say. But a trip to TPS means fresh oil and filter now fitted.

In other news

Had some of these made

Should have come as standard
