Old Git:
thanks all for the welcome :grouphug:! Old git refers to my crossing into the big 40 tomorrow so maybe the golf is a mid- life reaction. Would really like to be in one sooner but the lease arrangement ties us in & it would be too costly to have two cars. Due to the rarity of dsg eqipped vehicles I was going to have test drive in my local dealers mk6 gti which is dsg - do you think that'll be representative of the ed30 with dsg?

Cheers, K.

A Very Warm Welcome from one 'Old Git' to another! :happy2:

Be aware that the DSG has a learning curve and you can choose any number of options as you drive - It's a great box of tricks.
The key to enjoyment is not to have too many expectations (true of much in life).

D-Mode:
Economy biassed 'automatic' which shifts to higher gears at low thresholds. Not always when you want it to but you can override it with the paddles.

S-mode:
Sports mode which 'automatically' takes you into kissing the red zone before shifting. But again, you can override it on the fly with the paddles - what could be simpler? By only using D and S modes you can drive a very effective 2-gear car.

M-mode:
Best of all - Just think manually and shift whenever you would in a conventional manual. Also just slip in and out of the other modes whenever you want. Tweak the M-mode with an aftermarket DSG remap.

You can select whichever suits the road conditions and your mood, all in a split second. I invariably drive in M and just D for urban or traffic queue crawls. Occasionally S. As I always drive with my hands at 'quarter-to-three', my fingers are at the paddles. I drove my first 10k miles using only D and S modes!!

For real-world practicality, get a 5-door. Get an Ed30 if you get the choice.

Finally, don't hang around in this forum! It's fatal!!! : -

You have been warned!!!!
